I love spending time with my husband, our sons, and our Goldendoodle, Kingdom. I enjoy talking to family and friends on Zoom calls because they all live far away, too. I like to be silly, travel, study Scripture, design, dance, and take pictures. My therapy is grocery shopping, cooking, reading, working with flowers, writing, and praying.
I've always loved flowers. Years ago, I told my husband I wanted a bouquet of flowers once a month, just because. Then, I moved to just purchasing flowers to put in a vase in my kitchen. As time went on, I decided to plant flowers each year around the house outside. I've tried growing my own food as well, but let's say I'm not the best at that. Finally, I relocated and found a place to purchase as many beautiful flowers as I wanted and started making my own creations. Now, every two weeks, you can find me turning my house into a little garden. To find out how it's going, follow me.
My family, like yours is probably just like other families when it comes to food. Our favorite foods may be pretty similar and we all have that one person who is a picky eater, and one who will eat just about anything.
Which one are you?
I love fruit! If I go over my grocery budget, it's because I got too much fruit. I've tried everything from oranges to grapes, from cherry plums to persimmons, and from rambutons to dragon fruit. I'll do a little research on a new fruit before I buy it, but I'll try anything.
What's your favorite fruit?
I'm a big veggie fan. I eat all the basic vegetables, although I especially love when I walk into the grocery store and find one I haven't eaten before. I immediately grab my phone and look up that veggie to see what I could possibly do with it. I've tried romanesco, broccolini, beet greens, swiss chard, purple carrots and more.
Are veggies on your list of favorites or naw?
When you live with a family member who is diabetic, you're always trying to find some carb-friendly meals. If you're like me, you want to spice it up a bit, too. I use lots of tomatoes, onions, and sweet peppers to make a lot of these dishes. When you need a meal that's carb-friendly, think veggies and meats.
Do you have any special diets you work around when cooking?
I'm a southern girl, even though when I meet some people they can hardly tell. Don't worry, if I get comfortable, my accent will show and if I get in the kitchen, they will definately know. Macaroni isn't true southern macaroni until it's baked. Collard greens have to have some kind of meat in them. And, grits? Well, everyone knows that grits is a staple of the South. I like my grits with shrimp and maybe some spinach mixed in.
What southern meal do you love to cook?
Every dish on this site is one of my favorites, but I had to create this category for some of the ones I really enjoy making or eating. These are also the dishes that my family may not like as much as I do. I enjoy mixing sweet and salty, different textures, and different types of foods together. It's therapy, it's art and it's fun!
What are some of your favorite dishes?
